1.Summary

The key point of today's class was 'peace'. In particular, we were taught about the level of peace in the country. There are several indicators for assessing a country's level of peace, one of which is the most widely known is the Global Peace Index (GPI). The GPI is presented annually by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), which compares and evaluates the levels of peace in countries around the world. The index measures a country's level of peace in three main categories: social safety and security, domestic and international conflicts, and the level of militarization. Social safety and security include internal safety factors such as crime rates, terrorist activities, and violence. Domestic and international conflicts assess the degree and duration of internal and external conflicts, and casualties, and the level of militarization measures the degree of militarization, including military costs, arms imports and exports, and military personnel. Within each category, there are several detailed indicators, which are put together to calculate the peace index of each country. According to a recent GPI report, Iceland has been rated as the most peaceful country in a long period of time, and New Zealand ranks high with its low crime rate and stable social structure. Portugal has been recognized as one of the countries whose level of peace has improved dramatically in recent years. In contrast, Afghanistan has recorded a low level of peace due to its continuous civil war and violence, and Syria has suffered serious casualties and social instability due to its long-running civil war. South Sudan also has a low level of peace due to its continuous conflict and violence since its independence. The countries are making various efforts to raise the level of peace. Some programs promote the importance of peace through peace education programs and enhance conflict resolution capabilities, while others promote social stability by reducing economic inequality and poverty through economic development. Conflict resolution and peacekeeping activities through international organizations such as the United Nations also play an important role. Peace means an environment where everyone can live safely and with dignity, beyond just a state of no war. Therefore, maintaining and promoting peace is a common goal of the entire international community. Peace is essential for sustainable development and the prosperity of mankind, and each country must make ceaseless efforts.

2.Interesting

The most interesting part of me today was that the sentence you showed me was, 'We need to be more peaceful.' Why? Aren't we already peaceful? There are many reasons why we need to be more peaceful. Although peace seems to be maintained in some areas now, there are still many conflicts and violence around the world. Furthermore, peace does not simply mean that there is no war or conflict, but it also includes social justice, economic stability, and an environment in which everyone can live with dignity. First of all, we need to be more peaceful to ensure the life and safety of mankind. Armed conflict, civil war, and terrorism are still occurring in many areas, which have killed countless lives and displaced millions of people. Creating a more peaceful world is essential to ensuring the life and safety of mankind. Also, peace is the basis for economic development and poverty reduction. Conflicts and wars destroy economies, destroy infrastructure, and deepen poverty. In contrast, in a peaceful environment, economic activity is activated, jobs are created, and poverty is reduced. This leads to prosperity for the whole society.Peace is also important for social integration and harmony. A peaceful society provides an environment in which people from all backgrounds can coexist with each other with mutual respect. It helps to promote social integration and harmony and reduce discrimination and prejudice. This social harmony strengthens social stability. Promoting mental and emotional health is also possible in a peaceful environment. Violence and conflict have serious adverse effects on an individual's mental and emotional health. On the other hand, a peaceful environment allows people to live safely and improves mental and emotional health by reducing stress and anxiety. It contributes to enhancing the happiness and quality of life of an individual. Peace is also needed for sustainable development and environmental protection. Conflicts and wars can lead to environmental destruction, which threatens the survival of mankind in the long run. A peaceful environment allows more resources to be devoted to sustainable development and environmental protection, which is important for the inheritance of a better planet to the next generation. International cooperation and stability also emphasize the importance of peace. Peace in the international community contributes to cooperation and stability among countries. International conflicts negatively affect the global economy and worsen international relations. A peaceful international environment promotes mutual prosperity around the world through trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchange. In conclusion, peace is a concept that goes beyond just a state of no war. The reason we need to be more peaceful is because it guarantees the life and safety of mankind, promotes economic development, promotes social integration and mental health, and enables sustainable development and environmental protection. We need to continue to pursue peace for a better future beyond the peace we have today.

3.discussion

What I would like to discuss with my classmates is how can we improve the level of peace in the country? The level of peace in a country is influenced by various factors such as political stability, economic conditions, social structure and culture, historical conflicts and resolutions, and international relations. Countries with stable and effective governance structures are generally more peaceful. Good governance includes transparent decision-making processes, respect for human rights, rule of law, and minimal corruption. Economic stability and growth, low unemployment, balanced income distribution, etc. play an important role in reducing social conflicts and maintaining peace. In addition, inclusive social structure and multicultural coexistence, educational level, and social safety nets also help to maintain peace. How we resolve past conflicts greatly affects the level of peace in the present. The process of healing past wounds and achieving reconciliation is important. Diplomatic relations with other countries, trade, and military tensions also affect the peace of the country.
Efforts such as political reform, economic development, social integration, historical scar healing, and strengthening international cooperation are needed to make other countries more peaceful, including Korea and China. The government should establish a transparent and fair political system to win public trust, reduce corruption, and protect human rights. The government should reduce economic inequality by promoting economic growth, creating jobs, and narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor. The government should promote understanding and harmony among different groups through education and cultural exchange, and strengthen social safety nets so that all citizens can feel a sense of security. Efforts should be continued to be made to resolve past conflicts and achieve reconciliation. To this end, truth identification, support for victims, and common memory and healing programs are necessary. The government should strengthen cooperation and exchanges with other countries to reduce international tension and promote mutual understanding. When these efforts are made in a comprehensive way, each country will be able to build a more peaceful and stable society.
