1.Summary
The key points of today's class were social class and inequality. Social class is a way to group people according to their economic and social positions. In general, people are classified into upper, middle, and lower classes considering factors such as income, education level, occupation, and social status, the professor said. This stratification will be related to the imbalance of resources and opportunities within society (Roles, who I learned in high school, comes to mind:() The upper class is mainly composed of high-income and wealth owners. It usually includes merchants, entrepreneurs, and high-ranking government officials. They are often socially influential and enjoy a high-end lifestyle, and try to maintain wealth through inheritance and inheritance to maintain their wealth and deliver it to their children.
The middle class is usually made up of workers, middle managers, and experts. They maintain a relatively stable income and life, and can often develop professionally by education or technology. The middle class plays an important role in socioeconomic development and stability. The lower class is often composed of people with minimum wage jobs or unstable jobs. They are often in economic difficulties and socially vulnerable positions, and may be limited in working conditions or access to social services. The social class affects social interaction, provision of opportunities, and political influence, and the social class is often regarded as one of the factors affecting the distribution of cultural, economic, and political powers.
2.interesting
Social stratification is often mistaken as being based on the amount of income or wealth. However, we have to admit that social stratification is not determined solely by money. Social stratification is formed complexly according to the lifestyle, social interaction, and cultural context of individuals. Education plays an important role in social stratification. Education level plays a decisive role in shaping an individual's knowledge, skills, and social network. Higher-educated people often hold a high level of profession, which helps to raise their social status. Therefore, education is not just a means to make money, but is one of the main factors that determine social position. Cultural background influences social stratification. Individual values, patterns of behavior, and social relationships are often based on their cultural background. For example, some people have rich cultural backgrounds, which affect their social interactions and networks. Therefore, cultural assets play as important a role in social stratification as money. Social solidarity and relationships influence the formation of social stratification. Social solidarity refers to the structure of interaction and support among people. For example, some people form various social solidarity by participating in social groups or group activities. These solidarity often strengthens their social position, which can make social stratification more complicated. In short, social stratification is not just based on money, but is formed by various factors such as education, cultural background, and social solidarity and relationship. And gender was also a big factor in dividing social classes (past tense). I don't think anyone who has studied history can say that women's social status was high. Women couldn't even vote for the president of their country
3.discussion
We were taught about social inequality and a stratified society today. Therefore, I would like to discuss the ideas of John Rawls, a social thinker who my classmates and I were usually interested in. How can we get rid of social inequality? Is it possible to get rid of it? Social philosopher John Rawls proposed his famous concepts 'category of justice' and 'principle of discrimination' in 'The Theory of Justice'. This provided a way to understand and respond to social inequality (although it is too difficult). Rawls argues that it is an ideal state for everyone to pursue a fair and free society. Thus, from Rawls's point of view, justice is defined as guaranteeing fair opportunity and freedom for everyone. Rawls handles social inequality through the 'principle of discrimination'. This principle argues that everyone is justified only by justice in conditions that can improve their position to the extent that they can help those in the most disadvantaged position. In other words, any social inequality or unfair situation should be adjusted in a way that maximizes everyone's interests and helps the most disadvantaged.Rolls' theory acknowledges that while it is possible and ideal to eliminate social inequality, in reality it can be practically difficult to eliminate it altogether. Instead, Rolls argues that it is important to minimize social inequality and provide everyone with fair opportunities and freedom. Therefore, the principles of justice and discrimination act as important tools in addressing social inequality.
In conclusion, Rawls' theory provides a useful framework for how to deal with social inequality. However, whether social inequality can be completely eliminated remains controversial.
