1.Summary

The most important theory in today's class was the world system theory. The world system theory is It is a theory that explains the asymmetric relationship between the center and the periphery by grasping the world as a social system. And the key word that was important in addition to the theory was 'poor'. The theory of world systems deals with the distribution and structure of power in international politics, and if we link it with poverty, we learned that countries or regions with insufficient power in the world can remain underpowered compared to other countries. For example, if a single country has dominant power, its rich class dominates the international economic system, and poor countries or regions may be limited in resources and opportunities due to this lack of power. This imbalance of power can widen the economic and social gaps between countries and lead to a lack of living conditions and opportunities for the poor. In addition, in the multi-power structure, several countries share power, and even in this situation, poor countries or regions can be pushed out of cooperation and competition with other countries and can be left behind due to lack of resources and technology.

2.interesting

The interesting part of my class was the graph of the poverty index of Korea and the OECD countries. The x-axis of the graph shows age and the y-axis of the graph shows percentages. The reason I found this interesting is that the graph of the OECD countries showed similar poverty rates for any age group, but the Korean graph showed a gradual increase in poverty rates from the ages of 26 to 40. The over-76 age group shows a poverty rate of over 50 percent. Why did it happen? Korea is one of the countries that are rapidly aging. As a result, poverty among the elderly has emerged as a serious social issue. The causes of these problems are diverse, but they are mainly due to changes in the social structure, instability in the labor market, the impact of low-interest rate policies, the lack of social security systems, and cultural factors. First, changes in social structure are one of the major factors that increase poverty among the elderly. As the family structure changes with the economic development of Korea, the role of the traditional family is weakening. This has resulted in more cases where the elderly have to spend money on their own without relying on their children. Also, instability in the labor market is also a factor that increases poverty among the elderly. The economic instability of the labor market is increasing as Korea's aging population limits the employment opportunities of the elderly in the labor market, and especially the elderly who are in financial difficult situations are engaged in low-wage jobs. The impact of low-interest rate policies is also affecting the poverty problem of the elderly. Korea's low-interest rate policies make it difficult to secure retirement funds and contribute to increasing the financial instability of the elderly. In addition, the lack of a social security system is one of the factors that exacerbate the poverty problem for the elderly. Korea's social security system is limited in providing life stability for the elderly, which could put them in an economically vulnerable situation. Lastly, cultural factors are also affecting the poverty problem of the elderly. In Korean society, the family structure is still emphasized, and the family's obligation to support the elderly is large. However, such support obligations may be ignored or insufficient due to changes in the family structure. These reasons have led to the situation where the elderly in Korea have a high poverty rate. This is not just a problem, but it will become a problem that intensifies as time goes by.

3.discussion

As I wrote in No. 2, Korea has a very high poverty rate of the elderly compared to other OECD countries. That's why I want to discuss it with my classmates. How can I solve it? The problem of high poverty rate of the elderly in Korea is emerging as a serious social challenge. To solve this problem, the following comprehensive approach is needed. First, the social security system should be strengthened. The elderly pension and welfare services should be improved and expanded to ensure a stable life for the economically vulnerable elderly. In addition, employment opportunities should be expanded to support the elderly to actively participate in the labor market. And the education and talent development of the elderly should be actively supported. The government should support the elderly to improve their quality of life and live independently economically through lifelong learning. Various educational programs and talent development programs for the elderly should be expanded. In addition, it will be necessary to make education on the current society and media free of charge in places such as welfare centers in line with the trends of the modern era, and the spread of it devices such as smartphones will be required. The family and social support system should be strengthened to create an environment where the elderly can be socially connected and supported. It is necessary to emphasize the obligation of families to support and expand programs to support the elderly's social activities and participation..
