1.summary
Today, we taught about the connection between society and religion and the influence of religion. The professor said that religion and sociology are almost no different. I agree with that. Religion is a society. They have a representative presence they believe in and worship the presence they believe in in in their own religious place every week (or every day) on the day they decide. Through such activities, mutual bonds are strengthened and sociality is developed. I think this is no different from our societyThe first question the professor asked was, 'What is the representative function of religion?' The representative function of religion is that it gives meaning to people's lives. We sometimes think, 'Why am I living?' Religion energizes people by giving them meaning in life, and it also provides them with a regular life in their lives by making them appear in religious places every week. They can meet, talk, and relieve stress with various people. The first question the professor asked was, 'What is the representative function of religion?' 2.interesting
What I think is interesting about the power of religion in this class. As the professor said in the class, religion is a society and has strong power. Religion can control the people within that religion (not all religions are like that!) and if a religion is a religion to which a large number of people are affiliated, various media outlets will promote it. You can also borrow their power depending on the profession of the person in that religion. For example, a member of the Shincheonji religion in Korea has a member of the parliament who supports and protects Shincheonji for its wrong actions. According to the 2023 Religious Awareness Survey conducted in Korea, when asked, 'Does religion affect society?' 7 out of 10 people who do not have a religion answered 'Does it affect society?' Religion also understands and solves problems, anxiety, fear, and death that we cannot easily solve, by relating them to transcendent beings.
3.Disscusion
What I want to discuss with my classmates is, "How do people join the religion?" The first way I think about it is family influence. If you listen to the people around me, they say that because their parents, grandmothers, and grandfathers are religious people, we are influenced by that religion the way we are. If we were to be influenced by that family's religious influence from a young age, we would naturally become religious people. Like running water. The second way is from a close friend. Humans want to go anywhere with close friends. For example, if a close friend says, "Would you like to go to church with me?" Most people accept the recommendation, "Yes! It would be fun to go with you!" Because close friends are not boundaries. The third way is to promote the media. When the media posts videos or articles about a religion's activities, a lot of people see them and say, "Oh, that's interesting!" It's possible because the media is so developed.
