1.summary

One important keyword in today's class was 'democracy'. I learned various democracies and their characteristics. Democracy is an institution that conducts politics for the people or an idea that aims for such politics. There are various kinds of democracy, such as representative democracy, direct democracy, and floating democracy. Korea is a representative democracy. We vote for the president or members of the National Assembly every fixed year and date. We hope that the people we vote for will make and implement policies for the people. As the professor said, even if representatives who will represent the people are elected in a major democracy, they are very rarely acting as the people wish. I thought they were right. When selecting representatives, they usually decide whether to vote or not based on the candidate's pledges. Candidates' pledges are voted with the idea that 'Oh! It is a pledge that I like! If I vote for this candidate, my life would be better!' but in today's society, most elected people do not keep their promises well. They forget their promises to the people and think only about their interests and status.

2.interesting

What interested me in class was about free liquid democracy. The professor showed me a picture in class, and like direct democracy, the people make their own policies and vote for people who can represent their opinions. I am in favor of such liquid democracy. Modern representative democracy has many problems. For example, there is an example of gerrymandering in Korea. In the 1950s, there were many cases of changing the administrative district itself for gerrymandering. As the ruling Liberal Party's popularity declined in urban areas ahead of the fourth parliamentary election, the government changed administrative districts to include rural areas with strong support for the ruling party around Daegu and Gwangju. Dangjin-gun, which was one constituency, was elected as the ruling party's candidate Won Yong-seok and In Tae-sik, so that both candidates could be elected, Jeongmi-myeon and Daeho-myeon, which were originally located in Seosan-gun, were incorporated into Dangjin, and Dangjin was divided into two constituencies, and both candidates were elected. Various gerrymandering attempts were also made in various parts of the country in the 1960s and 1980s. Like this, there is a problem of fairness, such as using expedients to be elected.

3.discussion

I agree with the method of democracy. However, if you follow that method, you will undoubtedly face many problems. I'd like to discuss it with you. Democracy has all the authority over its people, but there is no guarantee that their people will make the right or valid judgments. Additionally, it is extremely unlikely that its members will have enough knowledge to exercise political power compared to a single-person dictatorship or oligarchy, and it is nearly impossible for all members with authority to have as much knowledge as they need. And even if it is economically feasible, in an ideal democratic society, everyone would have accurate information and accurate judgment, but in reality, they often vote without reading all election promotional materials.
